SM is a kind of
transparent or light-yellow oil-like liquid with special
fragrance. |
| |
SM as one of the
most important monomers in chemical industry, is widely
applied to make PS,EPS,ABS,SAN,UPR,SBR,SBL,SBS etc. It
is poisonous and can make damage to skin and eyes. Gasified
SM is a stimulus to respiratory tract and eyes, leading
to dizziness, and unconsciousness in the worse case.
|
| |
SM is stored in
carbon-steel or stainless steel tanks. Static electricity
and fire shall be avoided, and contact with copper, copper
alloy and oxygen shall be prevented. |
| |
SECCO SM unit adopts
ABB/Lummus's proprietary EB/SM technology with the capacity
of 500ktpa, one of the units in the country, and the product
quality meets GB 3915-90 and ASTM D2827 standards |

Olefins General
The SECCO Olefins units, comprising the Steam
Cracker, Olefins Conversion Unit (OCU), Gasoline
Treatment Unit (GTU), Aromatics Extraction
Unit (AEU) and Butadiene Extraction Unit (BEU)
are the foundation of the overall SECCO 900ktpa
ethylene cracking Complex, a world scale facility
in its own right, which is being built in
Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park (SCIP) and
will be on stream since early 2005.
The products from the Olefins units are reactive
chemical intermediates which provide the chemical
feedstock for the downstream SECCO units such
as Polyethylene, Polypropylene, EBSM, Polystyrene
and Acrylonitrile. Approximately 80% of the
Olefins units production is consumed within
the SECCO complex. The main products and their
capacities are as follows:
Ethylene 900,000 Te/Yr
Propylene 610,000 Te/Yr
Butadiene 90,000 Te/Yr
Benzene 210,000 Te/Yr
Toluene 148,000 Te/Yr |

Ethylene
Ethylene is produced by steam cracking Naphtha
and other hydrocarbon streams. Ethylene (C2)
is a colourless gas with a slightly sweet
smell. SECCO uses ethylene to make polyethylene,
styrene and polystyrene, which in turn are
used to manufacture a wide variety of products
from food packaging to toys. It is of fundamental
importance to the plastics industry and is
the basic building block of organic chemistry. |
|
 |
Propylene
Propylene (C3) is a colourless gas. It is
highly flammable and can be used as a substitute
for LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). It is easier
to transport propylene than ethylene as it
can be liquefied at much lower pressures and
is conveyed in its liquid form. SECCO uses
propylene to make polypropylene, a plastic
used in cars and toys, and acrylonitrile,
a chemical used to make acrylic fibres. |
|
 |
Butadiene
Butadiene (CH2=CH-CH=CH2) is a colourless
gas with a slight sweet and fragrant odorodour
at room temperature; is soluble in organic
solvents, insoluble in water; is inflammable
and its explosion limits ranges between 2%
and 11.5%. As one of key petro-chemicals,
it is mainly used for manufacture of various
synthetic rubbers (SBR, NBR, PBR), also for
process of synthetic resin, fibres and fine
chemicals, such as ABS, BS & SBS etc. |
|
 |
Toluene
Toluene is a colourless liquid with a sweet,
pungent, benzene-like odorodour; is flammable
and produces poisonous gas in a fire; containers
of it may explode in fire. It is slightly
soluble, and incompatible with strong oxidizers.
As one of key basic chemical materials, it
is widely used in the manufacture of other
chemicals and as an ingredient in fuel, paint,
glues and adhesives. |

 |
Acrylonitrile
Acrylonitrile, or Cyano-ethylene (CH2=CH-CN),
is a colourless inflammable liquid with drastic
toxicity and irritation irritating smell;
dissolves slightly in water and quite well
in common organic solvent. There exists the
danger of burning and explosion when it meets
with fire, high temperature and oxidants.
Acrylonitrile vaporvapour and air can form
an explosive mixture with the explosion limits
between 3.1%-17%(vol.). The boiling point
is 77.3ˇăC, the flash point -5ˇăC and the self-ignition
point 481ˇăC.
Secco will manufacture
it by direct oxidation by using propylene,
ammonia and air as raw materials, which
is the leading technology licensed by BP.
It is used for manufacture of synthetic
rubber, synthetic resin, dyestuff and medicine. |
|
 |
Acetonitrile
Acetonitrile, or methyl cyanide (CH3CN), is
a colorlesscolourless liquid with drastic
toxicity and aromatic smell; the flash point
is 5.56ˇăC (open cup) and the self-ignition
point 525ˇăC, the explosion limits of its vaporvapour
and air mixture between 4.4%-16%(vol).There
exits the danger of burning and explosion,
if it encounters fire, high temperature and
oxidant. It reacts actively with sulphuric
acid, fuming sulphuric acid, chlorosulfonate.
It is soluble in water and alcohol and can
be polymerized into dimeric polymer and tripolymer.
Secco will manufacture it as a by- product
of acrylonitrile by using propylene, ammonia
and air as raw material, which is the leading
technology licensed by BP.
It is used as an extraction solvent for
butadiene and aliphatic acid, calodorant,
non-ferrous metal floating agent. It is
also a raw material for aromatizer, medicine
and agricultural pesticide.
